Vine Gogh is moving!
After 10 years in the SE Portland / Sellwood area, we are packing up and moving to the west side. We are ready for the business to be closer to home (us two owners have lived on the far west side for 18 years). Our lease in Sellwood is ending and rent in Portland is very high. Recovery from being closed for so many months due to COVID will be rough and uncertain, and having our studio close to home will allow Paul and I to be more involved and build it back up on our own time frame.
Where are we moving to?
We have a beautiful, large open space in the charming and historic old town district of Sherwood, just at the very edge of wine country. The space is a 110-year-old former ballroom with a built-in stage. It has been a yoga studio and dance studio in recent years and even has a ballet barre! We've been operating our Gogh Box subscription crate and Vine Gogh at home kits from this space with the intent of eventually opening it up for classes to the public. Our landlords are great, the rent is affordable, and the space is awesome and right in our hometown where we have lots of local support. Here are some photos of the interior:
The photo above is taken from the stage. Below is the corner where the wine bar might end up going.
Below is a photo with the fun stucco wall in the room where we film all of our Gogh Box tutorial videos:
Stairs: The space is a 2nd story loft and is up 24 stairs. Keep that in mind when we re-open - the building is very old and the only access is via stairwell. We have stairs in the front and emergency exit stairs in the back of the building. For those who can't do stairs, we will continue to host some occasional off-site events in accessible areas.
Our last open day in Sellwood was going to be Friday, May 7th, but after the Governor changed Multnomah county to extreme risk today, all future events are canceled. So, our last teaching day in Sellwood was this past Saturday night. Having a retail business during COVID has been one wild roller coaster ride and we are so used to surprises by now, that nothing comes as a surprise!
We loosely plan to open our Sherwood space in late summer / early fall, of course, dependent on COVID. Our OLCC license is already being drawn up. There will be some changes with our re-opening, and many of these we'll detail as we go along. Primarily, we are setting it up as a "Creative Space", offering not only painting, but bringing some local professionals in for alternative events: Barre/Yoga classes, sign-making, candle-pouring, macramé, etc.
We have had a wonderful time in SE Portland. It's a very artsy place with a lot of walk-by traffic and the neighbors and locals have been extremely friendly, and we will miss it greatly. For now, the winds of change are taking us to other places. Thank you for a decade of fun. Please don't forget to support your local small businesses, especially now. Those with open credits / gift certs can apply them to our Gogh Box art kits (which we ship right to your home) or wait until we're back open. Thank you again, cheers and see you soon!
